1985: At an Apple Computer board meeting, John Sculley asks Steve Jobs to step down as head of the Macintosh division. The other executives agree.
1989: At the Comdex show, Atari Computer introduces the Portfolio portable computer. It features keyboard, MS-DOS, 128 KB RAM, 8 line by 40 character wide LCD display, uses memory cards, uses 3 AA batteries, includes word processor, spreadsheet, address book, calendar, and calculator. Weight is one pound; the system is about the size of a videocassette. Price is to be US$399 when released in June
1991: US District Court Judge Fern Smith agrees to allow Tengen (part of Atari Games) to sell its game cartridges for the Nintendo Entertainment System, pending the outcome of an appeal.
1992: Nintendo releases the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the UK. Price is 149 pounds.
1999: In San Diego, California, the DemoMobile 99 Conference is held, over three days. IBM announces the WorkPad z50 portable computer. It features 8.2-inch VGA 64,000 color screen, 131 MHz NEC VR4121 RISC processor, Windows CE operating system. Size is 10.2 x 8 x 1 inches; weight is 2.6 pounds; price is US$999.
2000: Research in Motion of Canada releases the RIM 957 Wireless Handheld computer. It features Intel 386 processor, 5 MB Flash RAM, built-in keyboard, wireless modem, monochrome screen. Weight is 5.3 ounces; price is US$499.
2001: Ecuador issues a 68-cent postage stamp depicting a personal computer.
2001: Indrema, of Alameda, California, announces it is unable to continue development of its proposed L600 video game system based on the Linux operating system, and is going out of business.
2003: Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox in Europe to 199 euros (about US$214) on the continent, and 129 pounds (about US$202) in Britain.
2005: Rockstar releases the Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
2006: Eidos releases the Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 in the USA.
