1991: Nintendo releases the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super NES) video game system in the US. It features 3.58MHz 16-bit 65c816 processor, 128kB RAM, 256-color graphics in 512x448 resolution. The 65c816 processor is a 16-bit version of the 6502 processor, but the new system cannot use game cartridges from the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Price is US$199.95, including two controllers and game Super Mario World.
1993: Capcom releases the Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting video game for the Super NES in the US.
2001: Sega cuts the price of the Dreamcast game system in the US from US$99.99 to US$79.99.
2009: A U.S. District Court in Texas orders Microsoft to stop selling the 2003 and 2007 versions of Word software in the United States in two months, and orders the company to pay US$290 million in damages to i4i Limited Partnership and Infrastructures for Information, a small Canadian firm that accused the software giant of violating its patents.

2008: At the Beijing Olympics, American swimmer Michael Phelps wins his 10th and 11th career gold medals, in men's 200-metre butterfly and 4x200 freestyle relay in world record 6:58.56). Phelps is now the record holder of most career Olympic gold medals.
