Video Games

1985: Microsoft and IBM sign a joint-development agreement to work together on future operating systems and environments.

1986: IBM and Microsoft announce a Joint Development Agreement for operating system development. The agreement was signed in June.

1987: Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US. This is the first NES game with a battery-powered save feature.

2000: Intel announces the 1.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, incorporating 42 million transistors.

2001: Nintendo announces it is delaying the release of the GameCube in North America from November 5 to November 18, to increase the quantity of systems available at launch from 500,000 to 700,000.

2005: Nintendo releases the Nintendogs: Lab & Friends video game for the Nintendo DS in the US and Canada. Also Dachshund & Friends, and Chihuahua & Friends.

2006: EA Sports releases the Madden NFL 07 video game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Game Cube, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance in the US.

1988: NBC premieres Later with Bob Costas (first guest Linda Ellerbee).

1991: Death of Colleen Dewhurst of cervical cancer at age 67; actress (Between Two Women (Emmy Award 1986), Those She Left Behind (Emmy Award 1989), Murphy Brown (Emmy Award 1991), Maggie Geyser - The Blue and the Gray, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea), president of Actor's Equity (1985-1991).

2007: The Texas Rangers score thirty runs in one game, setting the modern (post-1900) Major League Baseball record for most runs by one team in a single game, in a 30-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

2008: Usain Bolt captures a third gold medal and a third world record at the Beijing Olympic Games, as Jamaica wins the men's 4x100m relay gold in world record of 37.10 seconds.
