1985: In Chicago, Illinois, the National Computer Conference is held.
1985: At the National Computer Conference, Verbatim introduces a prototype optical disk drive that can read, write, and erase data.
1985: James Vollandt plays Joust for over 67 hours on one coin, (with four 20-minute breaks) a world record for any arcade video game. His record high score is 107,216,700.
1994: Microsoft reaches a settlement with the US Department of Justice regarding alleged monopolistic operating system licensing practices. A similar agreement is also struck with the European Commission, giving it the right to monitor Microsoft's compliance for six-and-a-half years. Microsoft agrees to change some of its practices of how it sells its operating systems to vendors in the United States and Europe. The Department of Justice begins the formal process of receiving court approval of the consent decree.
2000: Microsoft unveils its C# (C sharp) language, an extension of C++ adding XML web support, COM, and Windows API support.
2002: Microsoft announces the release name of its digital media technology code-named Corona will be Windows Media 9 Series.
2002: Apple Computer releases QuickTime 6 digital media software. A major new feature is the inclusion of MPEG-4 support.
2003: LucasArts releases the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game for the Xbox in the US.
2004: Microsoft announces that Xbox Live has reached one million subscribers.
2005: The Disney Channel airs the film Life is Ruff on television in the USA. A Nintendo 64 is played without a game plugged in.
2007: Sony announces September 20 as release date for the new PlayStation Portable in Japan, at price of 19,800 yen (US$162).
2007: Total sales of the PlayStation 3 in Japan: 1 million units.
2007: Total sales of the Nintendo Wii in Japan: 3 million units.
2007: Total sales of the Nintendo DS in Japan: 18 million units.
