Video Games

1998: Unit sales of Windows 98 in its first four days: 530,000.

2000: Intel announces that the processor code-named "Willamette" will formally be called Pentium 4.

2000: Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A laptop computer appears, used to write a romance novel.

2000: Acclaim Entertainment releases the Mortal Kombat: Special Forces video game for the PlayStation in the US.

2001: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upholds the ruling that Microsoft maintained its operating system monopoly by illegal means, but rejects the claim that Microsoft attempted to extend its monopoly to the Web browser market, removes Judge Thomas Jackson from the case, and rejects his order calling for the company to be broken up. The court asks the trial court to revisit the issue of tying the browser to Windows.

2004: At Apple Computer's Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple debuts the Mac OS X 10.4 operating system. A major new feature is systemwide search technology "Spotlight". Code-name during development was Tiger.

2004: Intel releases the 32/64-bit Xeon processor, with 800 MHz system bus. Speeds and prices are 3.6 GHz (US$851), 3.4 GHz (US$690), 3.2 GHz (US$455), 3 GHz (US$316), 2.8 GHz (US$209) in 1000-unit quantities. Code-name during development was Nocona.

2006: Warner Bros. releases the film Superman Returns to theaters.
