1993: The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. One scene takes place in a video game arcade.
1994: In San Diego, California, Nintendo holds the Nintendo PowerFest World Championships 1994 video game competition, over three days. Michael Iarossi of New Jersey wins the grand prize of US$5000 and a new Ford Mustang car.
1996: In Las Vegas, Nevada, the Fall '96 COMDEX trade show is held, over five days. 200,000 people attend.
1996: At the Comdex show, Intel CEO and President Andrew Grove predicts that by 2011, Intel processors will integrate one billion transistors and operate at 10 GHz and 100,000 MIPS.
1996: At the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Microsoft officially launches Windows CE 1.0 for handheld microcomputers. It includes includes a personal information manager, limited versions of Word and Excel, and an email client.
1997: Cyrix shareholders approve a merger with National Semiconductor. Total value of the deal is US$550 million.
1997: Sega releases the Sonic R video game for the Sega Saturn in the US.
1998: U.S. District judge Ronald Whyte grants Sun Microsystems' request for a preliminary injunction against Microsoft, requiring Microsoft to cease labeling its products that contain Java technology as being the "official" Java implementation.
2001: Nintendo releases the GameCube video game system in the US. It features four controller ports, one controller, 485 MHz IBM Gekko main processor, 162 MHz ATI Technologies "Flipper" graphics processor, 40 MB RAM, DVD-based proprietary disc drive. Games come on 3-inch optical discs holding up to 1.5 GB. Price is US$199.95.

The rechargeable battery powers the unit for about 8 hours. Weight is 6.9 ounces; size is 5 x 3.2 x 0.7 inches; price is US$249. A model with 400 MHz processor and 64 MB RAM costs US$349.
