Video Games

1992: Sega releases the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game for the Genesis and Game Gear game systems. Sega calls the day "Sonic 2sday".

1995: Philippe Kahn resigns as chairman of Borland International.

1995: At the Shoshinkai show in Chiba, Japan, Nintendo displays the 64-bit cartridge-based Nintendo 64 video game system. Target ship date is April 21, for 25,000 yen (US$250). Games demonstrated are Super Mario 64 and Kirby's Air Ride. Nintendo gives details of the 64DD add-on for the Nintendo 64, with a 64 MB hard drive.

1995: Hudson releases the Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire video game for the PC Engine in Japan. The game is only released at the Shoshinkai game show.

1998: America Online announces an agreement to acquire Netscape Communications for US$4.2 billion in stock.

1998: Eidos releases the Tomb Raider III video game for the PlayStation in the US.

2002: The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character says various words, trying to remember a code word. One of the words he says is "Nintendo".

Movies

1993: Fox releases the film Mrs. Doubtfire to theaters.

2005: Death of Pat Morita at age 73; comedian, American actor (Arnold - Happy Days, Karate Kid movies).

Music

1991: Death of Freddie Mercury of AIDS at age 46; lead singer (Queen) (born 1946).

1991: Death of Eric Carr, American drummer (Kiss) at age 41 (born 1950).

2007: Death of Casey Calvert, American musician (Hawthorne Heights) (born 1981).

Sports

1996: The Toronto Argonauts defeat the Edmonton Eskimos 43-37 to win the 84th Grey Cup at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario. The game is notable for the heavy snowfall that took place, resulting in the game being dubbed "The Snow Bowl".

2002: The Montreal Alouettes win the Canadian Football League Championship for the first time since relocating from Baltimore, defeating the host Edmonton Eskimos 25-16 in the 90th Grey Cup at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.

2007: The National Australian Football League draft takes place.
