1987: Microsoft announces Microsoft Windows 2.0, and Microsoft Windows/386, priced at US$195.
1987: Microsoft unveils the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software for Microsoft Windows 2.0, the first major application for Windows. Included is Microsoft Windows v2.01.
1990: Sega launches the Game Gear handheld video game system in Japan. Price is 19800 yean. Launch titles include Columns, Pengo, Super Monaco GP.
1998: Microsoft releases Visual J++ 6.0 Java delopment software. Price is US$549 for Professional Edition, US$109 for Standard Edition.
1998: At the Sega New Challenge Conference in Tokyo, Sega debuts the Dreamcast video game system.
1999: United Paramount Network airs the Seven Days TV show in the USA. The episode involves a video game player remotely controlling a live missile aimed at the US Pentagon building. A few arcade video game machines appear at a nightclub. A brief scene takes place in a videogame arcade, showing a wrestling game.
2000: Portugal issues a postage stamp of Snoopy on his dog house typing at a personal computer.
2000: Sony releases the Vaio PictureBook laptop computer in Japan, the first with a Transmeta Crusoe processor.

2004: Microsoft releases Virtual PC 7 software for the Apple Macintosh. The product emulates a Pentium processor, allowing the Microsoft Windows operating system and applications to run on the Macintosh. Price is US$249, including Windows XP Professional.
2004: (to October 10) At the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco, California, the World Cyber Games 2004 Grand Final championship games are held, over five days. 30,000 spectators watch about 700 gamers in teams from 59 countries compete for $400,000 in prize money. Two console games are Halo and Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox. The Netherlands team wins the most points. The Korean team wins the most medals.
2005: In Australia, the High Court of Australia rules that it is legal to install modification chips in a PlayStation 2 that allow the console to play imported or copied games. Sony Computer Entertainment originally filed a lawsuit against Sydney retailer Eddy Stevens in 2001 for selling unauthorized copies of games, and selling and installing modification chips for the PlayStation 2.
