Video Games
1991: NEC releases the NEC PC Engine Duo video game system in Japan. This combines the PC Engine with the CD-ROM2 in one case, and extra memory for the Super CD format.
1991: NEC releases the NEC PC Engine LT handheld console game system, with 4-inch screen, built-in speakers, and HuCard CD support.
1992: In Tokyo, Japan, Jeff Hansen of the US defeats Yuichi Suyama of Japan. to become the World Nintendo Champion.
1993: Sega Enterprises announces it would base its next-genertion video game system on a Hitachi 32-bit processor, with sound chips from Yamaha, and circuitry for video images from JVC.
1998: Apple Computer releases the AppleWorks 5 software suite. Price is US$99; upgrade price is US$79.
1999: A large earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter scale shakes Taiwan, leading to a two-week halt to manufacturing of many components of personal computers.
